I detect in trashy areas with the following settings: Interestingly, it also lay on the surface.ĭo not be surprised that in such places, the amount of rubbish will go off the scale – the trash must be sifted through and sorted out, it gives good finds, and can even give more than what a month of regular detecting in the fields can do! My settings for trashy areas on the Minelab Equinox 800 And even in those places, there were fights during WW2 (about 400 meters away there were parachutists in 1944), but the buckle is post-war in its design and type. In the same place, not far away, a post-war buckle from the Soviet Army was found. The place was an old road that was no longer used, it was abandoned about 70 years ago, and then it was overgrown and it partly disappeared. For example, this coin was higher up, a Kopeck from 1841, I found it at the depth of…one centimeter! Yes, I just took off the top layer of soil and the find appeared. Now, regarding the finds – do not be surprised that the finds in a trashy area can lie at different depths. Although a couple of additional coil models would not hurt for the Equinox! 🙂 Since none of the other coil manufacturers have yet released their Equinox models, we have to take the original coils, which work very well. It is these kinds of sniper coils that work best in such places. This is also useful, but it is better to dig coins and various useful small objects in the trash, such as jewelry and rings.

Such places are still full of finds because most diggers try to avoid them, but that’s not always the best thing to do! Yes, there is nothing to do at such places with a large coil – you will only hook large signals, because the metal detector will respond better to large objects made from non-ferrous metal, and cut off small objects so that you only will accumulate various horseshoes and large objects. Otherwise, you may find yourself putting the 11″ search coil back on after a couple hours of use.Naturally, the sniper coil is needed for detecting in littered places. I would recommend making a harness or something that could take the pressure off of your arm. The 15″ search coil is definitely the coil to have at the beach or in wide open areas.
The additional depth gained is only about an 1″ or so depending on the target. Stay out of corn fields with high corn stalks. Adds significant weight to the Equinox and it is not easy to swing. 15″ COIL PROS 15″ COIL CONS Provides great coverage enabling you to cover more ground in less time. The coil does come with some downsides (see the table below). The coverage that the 15″ provides is enough reason to purchase the coil. There is no question that the 15″ coil is made to cover wide areas of ground. For those metal detecting wide open farm fields and permissions where you have numerous acres to cover, the 15″ coil should be your coil of choice. Even though I would use the 11″ 90% of the time, there are times when the 15″ comes in handy. If you would like to see the review check out my video below. I have used the 6″ on numerous occasions and I was able to find coins that the other Equinox search coils missed. The 6″ search coil is must have for those tight spaces and trashy soil. For a small coil it still gets incredible depth It does lose some depth compared to the 11″ or 15 coils. This will require significantly more time to cover an area. Coverage area is significantly smaller than the other search coils. Extremely good at getting under brush, tree roots, small spaces etc. 6″ COIL PROS 6″ COIL CONS Extremely good separation in trashy conditions. However, there are some things to consider before investing in this coil (see the table below). This coil enables you to hunt in tight spaces such as under tree roots, in between rocks, under brush etc.
The 6″ coil excels under these conditions. The coil performs best in trashy conditions and tight spaces. This small 6″ DD coil packs a punch and isn’t short on depth.
